{"id":237,"date":"2012-08-08T00:09:20","date_gmt":"2012-08-07T22:09:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogg.uit.no\/llu001\/?page_id=237"},"modified":"2012-08-08T00:09:20","modified_gmt":"2012-08-07T22:09:20","slug":"double-edged-angel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogg.uit.no\/llu001\/translations\/double-edged-angel\/","title":{"rendered":"Double Edged Angel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From\u00a0<em>Tveegget engel (Doubl Edged Angel)<\/em><\/strong><strong>1988<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>translated by Susan Schwartz Senstad and the writer<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I DRIVE, QUEEN OF ICE<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I drive, Queen of Ice, through winter&#8217;s ocean<\/p>\n<p>behind borrowed reindeer across frozen waves<\/p>\n<p>heaven&#8217;s darkness streaming like a starry mane.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Swords of northern lights are drawn before light\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>battle for the love of darkness.\u00a0\u00a0The sleigh<\/p>\n<p>flees from winter\u2019s heart, cold and paralyzing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I hear the King of Winter is enraged:<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s gnawing the icicles off stars and houses<\/p>\n<p>gashing heaven\u2019s frost with mountain peaks<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>he\u2019s grinding snow breasts between icy teeth<\/p>\n<p>hounding the lust of darkness with a biting whip,<\/p>\n<p>and I am drunk with ice, my cheeks aflame<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>with fierce winter fever as spiky stars stab out<\/p>\n<p>through my flesh and crystalline minerals sweat<\/p>\n<p>from the depths beneath my body\u2019s skin and hair<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>where light awaits naked as a bridegroom,<\/p>\n<p>until darkness surrenders altogether, and<\/p>\n<p>day arises with its beaming lucid mind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MY REAL DAUGHTER<\/p>\n<p>WORLD YOUNG<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She made a garland of her hair for the feast<\/p>\n<p>and threw her tears to the wolves<\/p>\n<p>She forged her sword-soul boyish<\/p>\n<p>and traded feathers with time\u2019s leaping heaven<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She raced ahead to hunt the storms<\/p>\n<p>and passionately kissed the skin of snow<\/p>\n<p>She would fly with all the wild birds<\/p>\n<p>animals and shadows, freely<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>to the light of wolves&#8217; jaws, with polar bears\u2019 pawprints<\/p>\n<p>stamped into her memory<\/p>\n<p>She wanted to win, as if her life were youthful<\/p>\n<p>and blond and fresh and soft as stone<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She stepped androgynously across the borders<\/p>\n<p>toward the distinctly open inner land of ice<\/p>\n<p>She would be among those who dive<\/p>\n<p>she would carry death like a precious stone<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She would live spreadeagled across life<\/p>\n<p>be a fine-tuned instrument<\/p>\n<p>against the world\u2019s tortured, aging reason<\/p>\n<p>She wished to torment cruelty<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>with her strong and mercy-glowing laughter<\/p>\n<p>She would salvage joy<\/p>\n<p>from that powerful despair<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>HERE<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The light surfs breakers of time<\/p>\n<p>the haze of heat hangs blue clouds<\/p>\n<p>in blue, let the years like a riddle<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>riddle themselves, I&#8217;ve forgotten<\/p>\n<p>and remembered enough, now I will<\/p>\n<p>be here in this where I am<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each morning awakens<\/p>\n<p>new vivid days &#8211;
