Some are easy to read while others are more subtle or even hidden below the surface. Typically, these challenges comes within all kinds of contexts \u2013 some are personal and some are more culturally or organizationally driven. <a href=\"https:\/\/standrewslean.com\/team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark Robinson<\/a>, Managing Director of St Andrews Lean Consulting, has visualized such challenges in<strong> \u201cthe wall of excuses\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48424026197_83729d1373.jpg\" alt=\"Wall-of-Excuses-v3-1024x724\" width=\"500\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have used this visualization myself when addressing change challenges, and it works well as an <strong>eye-opener<\/strong> and a platform for <strong>honest discussions<\/strong> on the difficulties we face. On top of that, it is also <strong>humorous<\/strong> and serves as an <strong>icebreaker<\/strong> when closing in on the matters of subject. By the way, my personal favorite excuse is <strong>BOHICA<\/strong>. Yes, it\u2019s an acronym.\u00a0 Yes, I\u2019ll tell you what it stands for: Bend Over Here It Comes Again\u2026<\/p>\n<p>However, I have several times felt the need to free up some positive and creative energy after <strong>banging m<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48423873181_b95b17d1b7_n.jpg\" alt=\"The wall of opportunities\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" \/>y head on the wall of excuses<\/strong>. In a presentation I held a few months back, I <strong>challenged the audience<\/strong> to use two minutes to counteract on all the reasons not to change, and see if it was just as easy to come up with reasons to \u201cjust do it\u201d. Those two minutes were somewhat mind-blowing and I had to get hold of an extra flip chart to wall it all up. Together the audience actually created <strong>\u201cthe wall of opportunities\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you ever feel the need to turn heads around, then <strong>try this<\/strong> and see what happens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\">&#8211;\u00a0<em>Svein Are Tjeldnes<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When working with people, teams or organizations on change, I have often come across displays of various challenges.
